Remote Backup
ServicesJust about every business performs some form of backup regularly or at least
periodically. What rarely occurs is testing of that system. At the end of this article we'll
provide you with a test for the reliability of your system. First I'd like to tell you about a relatively new
service now available, and affordable for small businesses.
In December of last year we began testing various remote backup software packages on a
Compaq Proliant server we had put together specifically for that purpose. After months of rigorous
testing we determined the best was the original, a company who pioneered the idea of safe, reliable off-site
backups for critical data. We created a new division called Remote Backup Services.
Remote Backup
Services provides a simple system, every night critical data on your computer is
encrypted, compressed and transmitted over your data line to our server. It is stored there and on
multiple daily backup tapes for redundancy. Only you have the encryption key to restore the data of
which you may change quickly and easily at any time. Restoring files is also simple and can be done
without our intervention although assistance is always available. It meets or exceeds the new HIPAA
Compliance standards and is used by thousands of law firms for their crucial, private data.

Today, with the wide spread use of high speed internet connections and cost reductions in
electronic storage, remote backup is not only for the multi-million dollar companies. Remote Backup Services has plans tailored to meet
the needs of small to the largest of companies.

Testing you current backup system. A simple way to test your back up system is to create a
file (we like to call it "backup"). It can be a spreadsheet, document, just about anything. Make sure
you save it in a directory which is included in your backup solution. After two days, delete the file.
The following day attempt to restore it. Send us a note and let us know how you make out and good luck!
